A Christmas message from the Pope Paul VI Institute
The following is an excerpt from a letter written by Amber Feldpausch, who struggled for years with complications in her fertility cycle.
On July 18, 2012, you performed on me the Ovarian Wedge Resection, after years of trying to figure out why my husband and I weren’t able to conceive. After recovery I had my first regular cycle in August and then continued to be “regular” the months that followed. Since my daughter Brianna was born on April 2, 2008, I had one cycle a year. It was amazing to see changes so quickly. I had never had regular monthly cycles, even before Brianna.
I am happy to write you and let you know that my husband and I were able to conceive in November and our son, Noah, was born July 30, 2013. After many years of facing infertility, it feels amazing to be back on track again with our family planning. The pregnancy is going well, and my hormone levels are normal.
My husband and I have taught Natural Family Planning, the Sympto Thermal Method through the Couple to Couple league for almost 4 years now. It was through our education with CCL that we learned of other methods of NFP. This path brought us to the Creighton Model and the Pope Paul the VI Institute and I feel very fortunate to have been exposed to the wonderful work your office is doing throughout the country.
When I explain the surgery I went through to other doctors here in Michigan, they have no idea what I am talking about. Through my years of infertility, I met many women who were carrying the same cross. I wish it was easier for them to go through the same process as I did with the Creighton Model but within our state of Michigan. Some of their insurances won’t cover out of state and therefore may never end up at your Institute.
Our practitioner, Maria Carlin, out of Flushing, Ml, was wonderful to work with and she continued to guide us throughout the year. Dr. Courtney Slonkosky in Sidney, Ohio performed my first surgery back in April 2012 which was a laparoscopy and helped narrow down the cause of my infertility and then of course Dr. Catherine Keefe performed the Ovarian Wedge Resection robotically. All three leaders were amazing to work with and it was so comforting how thorough the process was. For once in my struggle of being irregular and infertile, I felt someone really cared about figuring out the problem instead of finding ways to cover it up.
We will continue to pray for your ministry and donate when we are able. May God bless all your work.
